I have worked as a custom portrait artist for over ten years, and am working on my Bachelors in Illustration. I grew up in Arizona, but am currently living in Alaska. I manage the Shane Lamb Gallery in Palmer AK, and am building an art instruction & social site.

This post is mostly just some marketing observations that I've had recently, and I wanted to share. I've just finished building and publishing my art Gallery. I've put a lot of work into it, but I think that the most important feature has been the inclusion of an art tips blog on the same site as my art lessen signup page.  So many people are trying too use the internet to market, share, and promote their work, that it has become a case of everyone screaming and no one being heard. What is creativity? What is the creative process? Many of you have heard that becoming good at something is a process of trial and error. While I agree with this saying, I don’t agree with how its worded. “Error” implies that something was wrong. It implies that we try doing something, and get it wrong, try it again and get it wrong; over and over until we get it right. The Memory Interval. Some of the best advice given to students is also the most annoying. It is the advice which changes our habits, and is therefore uncomfortable. It often doesn't "feel right", when we suddenly change how we have been drawing for years. This piece of dreaded but useful advice is to look at the subject for the same amount of time you look at your drawing. Switch back and forth quickly. When we draw we look at the subject, observe some aspect of its appearance, and try to represent that on paper. We can't get a likeness a fairly close to that of the subject without looking at it.
